Världen Brinner – Liseberg

Världen Brinner is one of Sweden's hottest punk rock bands right now. The quintet kicked off two evenings of punk at Gothenburg's amusement park Liseberg with an impressive, high-energy performance.

Världen Brinner is a Swedish punk rock band formed in Västerås, Sweden, in 2015. The band name, which would translate to "World On Fire" or "The World is Burning" in English, reflects on their often politically charged lyrics and themes.

The music is rooted in punk rock, infused with melodic elements and strong, driving rhythms. Lyrically, they tackle a range of issues from personal struggles to broader social and political topics. Their songs are often marked by a sense of urgency and defiance, aligning with the punk tradition of challenging the status quo. They have carved out a niche within the punk scene with their raw sound and passionate performances.

Two Nights of Punk

Liseberg is one of the largest amusement parks in Sweden, and during a in early August, 2024, it held a punk-themed weekend at the smaller music stage. Världen Brinner kicked of the weekend with a high-energy punk-rock gig.

I also shot the band Mimikry, playing the same night. The night after had the bands Trubbel and Troublemakers play.

Strong Performance

First time seeing Världen Brinner live left quite a strong impression on me. The band sounded tight and the energy and sheer joy radiating off of frontwoman Malin Sandberg made the show really engaging and fun. I got a bit of workout just trying to keep up, behind the cameras!

Love seeing two-guitar punk bands as well, as it gives it some tasty leads on top of the typical punk-rock diet of power chord riffage.

Photographing the Event

I was able to shoot from the pit for the usual first three songs, and it was great fun shooting a show with so much energy and action!

As far as camera settings go, I had the shutter speed set to 1/200s, which tends to be a nice sweetspot, since it is just enough to freeze the action without pushing the ISO too high. Fast shows like these can really benefit from even faster shutters, though! It's always that balance where a faster shutter gives you more keepers, but noisier images. Burst mode is your friend!

Before moving on to the photos, as always, I want to send out a special thanks to the arrangement at Liseberg for letting me shoot this show!
