Spiders – MetAle, Liseberg

Swedish rockers Spiders brought a jolt of pure joy to their hometown crowd, closing Liseberg’s MetAle event of 2025. With their fourth album Sharp Objects fresh off the press, the band delivered a set that felt like a shot of sunshine wrapped in gritty guitars. Frontwoman Ann-Sofie Hoyles was an unstoppable force of positive energy—a true happy pill on stage—and CrowdSnapper was there to capture every radiant moment.

Spiders Spark at MetAle: A Decade On, Still Electrifying Liseberg

There’s a particular thrill in watching a band evolve over time—especially when you’ve seen them perform almost exactly where it all began. Just over ten years ago, Spiders delivered a firecracker of a show only a stone’s throw from where they stood this past weekend at Liseberg. Back then, it was at a smaller outdoor stage that has since been repurposed for children’s theatre. This time, it was the beer-fueled MetAle event hosting some of Sweden’s finest rock acts. One thing, however, has remained unchanged: the raw energy of Spiders—and especially their electrifying frontwoman, Ann-Sofie Hoyles.

Still Sharp After Four Albums

The Gothenburg-based quartet has carved out a well-earned place in the Swedish rock scene over the last decade. With four albums under their belt—including the most recent Sharp Objects, released in February—Spiders continue to prove that they’re not just studio darlings but a force to be reckoned with live. Earlier efforts like Shake Electric even earned them a Grammis nomination and a nod from P3 Guld, cementing their reputation as a band with both grit and staying power.

Tightly Packed Set

Taking the MetAle stage for a tightly packed 55-minute set, the band wasted no time in kicking things into high gear. Hoyles was a burst of kinetic energy from the very first note, and it didn’t take long before she leapt from the stage into the photo pit, making direct contact with the crowd. Her presence is magnetic—a mix of joyous abandon and total command—and she sent waves of positivity across the beer garden with every step, shake, and shout.

Fierce, Multi-Talented Frontwoman Backed by A Tight Band

Beyond her dynamic vocals, Hoyles showcased her versatility by picking up the guitar occasionally, adding extra grit to the band’s sound. She also pulled out a harmonica for bluesy breakdowns and sprinkled in rhythmic flair with maracas and tambourine. It’s clear that she lives for the stage, and it’s just as clear that her bandmates have the chops to keep up.

The rest of the group—tight, precise, and powerful—played with the confidence of a unit that’s been through the trenches together. Their chemistry is palpable, their execution flawless.

Go Check Them Out...and Try to Keep Up!

As a photographer, the show was a thrilling challenge: trying to keep up with Hoyles as she danced, jumped, and dashed from one end of the stage (and pit) to the other. But that's the magic of shooting Spiders. You don’t just document the performance—you chase it, feel it, and if you're lucky, you capture a fraction of the spark they ignite onstage.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or a curious newcomer, catching Spiders live is a must. And if you ever get the chance to see them again at Liseberg—where their story has now come full circle—don’t think twice. Just go.
