Seinabo Sey live at Göteborgs Kulturkalas 2025: Concert article from Kungstorget
Swedish singer-songwriter Seinabo Sey has built a reputation over the past decade as one of Scandinavia’s most distinctive voices in modern soul and pop. Blending elements of soul, R&B, electropop and alternative pop, she is known for her powerful vocal delivery and emotionally driven songwriting.
From breakthrough artist to household name
She first broke through internationally with the single Younger in 2013. The track became a defining moment in her career, and the 2015 Kygo remix helped propel it into global rotation, introducing her voice to a much wider audience across both pop and electronic music scenes. The song remains her most recognisable release and continues to be a key reference point for new listeners discovering her work.
Over the years, Seinabo Sey has collaborated with artists such as Oskar Linnros and STOR, further establishing her presence within the Swedish contemporary music scene. She has also received multiple Swedish Grammis awards and earned a strong critical reputation for her artistic consistency and vocal strength.
For many Swedish viewers, she also became a familiar face through her appearance in the 2024 season of the TV4 series Så mycket bättre, where her interpretations of other artists’ songs introduced her to a broader mainstream audience once again.
A calmer contrast at Kungstorget
On 29 August 2025, Seinabo Sey brought a relaxed and intimate atmosphere to the main stage at Göteborgs Kulturkalas in central Gothenburg, performing on the festival’s second day at Kungstorget. The festival itself has since returned to the simpler name Göteborgskalaset, while the English branding “Gothenburg Culture Festival” also appears to have been quietly dropped.
Scheduled for a prime-time slot just after 9 pm, Seinabo Sey stepped onto the stage in front of a massive audience gathered in the city centre. Coming directly after the high-energy atmosphere of the RIX FM Festival, the contrast could hardly have been greater. Yet that shift worked surprisingly well. Instead of trying to compete with explosive pop energy, Seinabo Sey offered something calmer, softer and far more laid-back, which became a welcome breather for the crowd.
A relaxed live performance
The performance itself reflected the style many have come to expect from her music. The concert carried a low-key and relaxed mood throughout, driven by warm vocals and a smooth live sound rather than big visual production or dramatic stage moments.
Joining her on stage was a second female vocalist providing backing harmonies, alongside a full live band featuring guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. Together, they created a rich but restrained sound that suited the late summer evening perfectly.
Even for listeners who may not be deeply familiar with her catalogue, the performance created an easy-going and pleasant atmosphere at Kungstorget. Rather than aiming for spectacle, Seinabo Sey focused on mood and musical presence, and that proved more than enough to hold the attention of the large Gothenburg audience.
